The Power of our Elite Cabinetry Division

Advocate Construction is hard at work again, this time calling on the talent and support of our Elite Cabinetry & Millworks division. Our current project involves both Advocate Construction & Elite Cabinetry partnering together to renovate the inside of a mid-century home in North Central TX.

As you can see, from the image above, we are installing new Shiplap walls inside of this home. Shiplap is a type of wooden board commonly installed on the exterior of homes, barns, & sheds. It’s risen to popularity through social media networks and the HGTV celebrities, Chip & Joanna Gaines. Many home owners request to install Shiplap inside of their homes, and we have the capabilities to make it happen!

Currently, we’ve installed these Shiplap beams inside of this home, but they are unpainted & unfinished. Elite Cabinetry will use a natural stain to match these walls to the pre-existing material inside of the home. We are not planking all of the walls inside of the home. Therefore, we have to work carefully to match our new Shiplap to the existing walls.

Part of our job involves building a beautiful bath tub & shower with classic white subway tiles. Here you can see we've installed the tile and are allowing the thin-set to dry & bond the tile to the wall. Complete Bathroom Renovation

As with most of our construction projects, we have the opportunity to completely gut the inside of this home and start with a blank slate. We prefer complete renovations. The reason being, we ensure that all aspects of the job are completed according to code and regulations:

  • Plumbing lines are sealed & properly plumbed with sufficient drainage (see below)
  • Electrical lines are installed to code, tested for faults & properly insulated
  • Construction materials sourced from quality providers to ensure a long lasting product

We take great pride in our ability to encompass all aspects of interior & exterior home construction. Secondly, Elite Cabinetry takes the time necessary to ensure the job is done right the first time.

Inspecting The Bones of The Home

This project is a renovation of an existing home. Therefore, we take great care to inspect all aspects of the home to ensure that we renovate the bones as well as the finished aspects, that you can see. The unfinished kitchen (below) provides some insight mid-project.

Currently, we are finishing out this kitchen with custom cabinets, produced in our Elite Cabinetry & Millworks shop located in Wichita Falls TX. Secondly, all of the electrical lines for our lighting & appliances are left exposed. This allows our technicians to install lighting & appliance fixtures as the interior of the kitchen is finished out.

The Importance of Proper Plumbing

If you’ve ever experienced a flooding issue inside of your home, then you understand the seriousness of proper drainage. We are installing a drainage line that will run beneath a new patio. This will be located on the backside of the home.

Below we show several images of this drainage line. Our objective is to capture any underground water and provide it a path away from the home. As we’ve covered in previous articles, we have a large amount of Red Clay soil throughout North Central TX.

These soils have a large affinity for water. This causes our soil to have higher rates of expansion & contraction during periods of heavy rain or drought. We are taking precautionary measures to protect this home from expansive soil conditions. In essence, this is a technique used to protect their foundation.

We are tying in a drainage line to help the water flow away from the home and keep the foundation healthy. Alleviating underground water is a great way to protect your homes foundation. It reduces the amount of soil swelling & shrinking from heavy rains and can save thousands in repair cost down the road.

Matching Our Materials

You might have guessed that one of our challenges is matching our construction materials with what our client currently has. Believe us, it’s always a challenge. However, at Advocate Construction Services, we work diligently to source materials that match your home. For example, we’ve sourced flagstone from Arizona, tile from Italy, and even more exotic places.

Matching materials is an art form and you have to know where to look. We’ve been in the construction industry for ten years now. Therefore, we understand the importance of fine craftsmanship and selecting materials. For home renovations, it’s a crucial aspect to the success of the project!
